Thermal Gliding Rules –

  • The competitions will be held at Leigh Park farm on the Sunday mornings as shown in the ‘Calendar’ section, commencing at 10-00am.
  • The thermal league will be an Open Class with no restriction on wing span.
  • Bungee launching will be used with maximum bungee stretch restricted to 110 yards.
  • Six rounds are planned with the number of flights in each round determined by weather conditions and the number of entrants on the day.
  • The dates for each of 6 rounds to be set at the start of the winter season with 3 reserve dates scheduled in case of inclement weather.
  • No rescheduling of rounds beyond those pre-allowed as reserve dates .
  • League result to be decided on the best 4 rounds by each competitor, or fewer if rounds are lost to the weather.
  • A Round shall be flown provided:
    a) at least 3 entrants are prepared to fly
    AND
    b) The organiser considers flying would be safely undertaken (it would not be safe to fly in rain, hail, snow or fog).
  • 4 flights per winter league round.
  • Each slot to be of 10 minutes duration taken from bungee release point.
  • 1 point to be scored per second of flight up to max of 600.
  • Landing bonus of up to 50 points for landings within the landing circle.
  • No penalty for landings exceeding the slot time but pilots must be ready for the next flight.

 

Hand Launched / Mini Glider Competition

1.    Qualifying models must have a maximum wingspan of 1.5 metres, a maximum weight of 560 gms and a minimum nose radius of 5mm.

2.    Launching may be by hand or by mini bungee

3.    The bungee should be a maximum of 20 metres in unstretched length.  The stretching part to be no longer than 5 metres (before stretching).

4.    The maximum total stretch of the bungee at the point of launch to be 27 metres.

5.    The competition shall comprise 3 rounds of five flights per competitor.

6.    The best three flights per round by each competitor shall score with 1 point awarded per second of flight, inclusive of the launch.

7.    A scoring flight must land within the designated field.

Electric High Time

A ‘Longest Electric Launched Glide’ for the summer and winter months (i.e. from clock change to clock change) at Leigh Park Farm

The competition is for Open class electric gliders where the rules are limited to;

  • Flight time to include a 60 second motor run within the first 60 seconds of the flight.
  • All recorded flights to be witnessed by another TRF member and submitted to Alastair Ramsay or the webmaster (see Contact Page) .
  • Results to be published in  the club Newslletter and shown on the club website (See Glider Section – Results)
  • Landings to be within the field used for launching.

Summer Category for the period defined by BST

Glider High Time

This competition is for the longest Unpowered Thermal Glider Flight of the summer or winter at Leigh Park Farm.

The competition is for Open class gliders where the rules are limited to;

  • Bungee or Winch launch
  • All recorded flights to be witnessed by another TRF member and submitted to Alastair Ramsay or the webmaster (see Contact Page) .
  • Results to be published in  the club Newsletter and shown on the club website (See Glider Section – Results)
  • Landings to be within the field used for launching.
